Tips to Conquer – Focus Tip

FOCUS TIP

Use A Timer!

Whenever I want to stop letting my mind wander and really get things done, I use a timer!  Using a timer is a great way to stay Focused on the task at hand.

  1. First decide!  Make a decision what is the most important thing to be done and decide you are going to dedicate a certain amount of time to the project immediately and allow NO distractions.
  2. Make a list of all things you would like to do today and decide what time you will do them.  It’s OK if you decide to do something else first that is on your list, but make certain you do the most important thing of the day, first.  As you think of more things, just add them to the list and know you will get to them.  Feel good that you wrote them down.
  3. Set the timer for an allotted time.
  4. Use small amounts of time, this helps you stay focused and work faster, knowing the timer is going to go off.
  5. Try to beat the clock unless you are working on thought provoking projects.  When I use a timer I am so much faster and more motivated.
  6. Don’t try to work on something you dread without taking a break.  Taking a break will help refresh you.  ENJOY the break.  Use self talk during the break and remember why you are working on the project,
  7. Use a timer for the break and don’t go over!
  8. After the break, back to work on the project or go to the next one.

timers

There are many timers available on the market today.  I have these three that I really like.  One is a timer that has 5 different buttons that I can set a certain amount of time to.  It also has a recorder on it, so if I want to motivate myself, I can record something to remind me of why I am doing a project or remind myself of the how the day will look at the end, as I pictured in the first place.

The second one I have is a digital.  I like it better than the egg timers, because I can check seconds, and minutes easier.

The third one has a string so you can wear around your neck, if you don’t want to mess with going back to the timer to reset it.

Want to stay focused and get more done?  Use a timer!
